Psalms 29

Give Glory to God

Study note

David calls the heavenly beings to give the Lord glory and strength and to worship him in the beauty of holiness.

1 Mighty heavenly beings, give the Lord what he deserves! Give him glory and give him strength! Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
2 Give the Lord all the honor his name deserves. Come before the Lord and worship him in the splendor of his holiness. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

The Voice of the Lord in the Storm

Study note

God's voice thunders over the waters, breaks the cedars, shakes the wilderness, splits flames of fire, and makes the deer give birth. In his temple, everyone cries 'Glory!'

3 The Lord's voice crashes over the waters. The God of glory thunders — the Lord's voice booms over the mighty ocean. The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
4 The Lord's voice carries incredible power. The Lord's voice is loaded with majesty. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The Lord's voice snaps mighty cedar trees in half. The Lord splinters the great cedars of Lebanon. The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon jump like a young calf and Mount Hermon like a wild young ox. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The Lord's voice sends out crackling bolts of lightning. The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
8 The Lord's voice makes the wilderness tremble. The Lord makes the wilderness of Kadesh shake. The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The Lord's voice causes deer to give birth and strips entire forests bare. And inside his temple, everyone is shouting, "Glory!" The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.

The Lord Gives Peace

The Lord who rules over the flood gives strength and peace to his people.

10 The Lord was enthroned over the great flood. The Lord sits as King forever. The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.
11 The Lord pours strength into his people. The Lord wraps his people in peace. The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
