What happens in Psalms 67

A short psalm asking God to bless Israel so that all nations may know his saving power. It echoes the priestly blessing of Numbers 6 and looks forward to worldwide worship of God.

Psalms 67

May God Bless Us

Study note

The psalm begins with a prayer for God's blessing: May he be merciful and make his face shine on us, so that all nations may know his ways.

1 May God be kind to us and bless us. May the light of his face shine down on us. Selah. God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.
2 Then every person on earth will know your ways. Every nation will understand your saving power. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, God. Let every people group praise you. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

Let All Nations Praise God

Study note

All nations are invited to be glad and sing for joy because God judges fairly. When the earth yields its harvest, God blesses us, and all the ends of the earth will worship him.

4 Let the nations be glad and sing out loud. You judge all peoples fairly, and you guide every nation on earth. Selah. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.
5 Let the peoples praise you, God. Let every people group praise you. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
6 The land has given its harvest, and God — our own God — pours out his blessings on us. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.
7 God will bless us, and people at the farthest ends of the earth will honor him. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
