What happens in D&C 79
Received in March 1832, in Hiram, Ohio. This brief revelation called Jared Carter to go forth and preach the gospel. Carter had already been an effective missionary, and the Lord affirmed his calling and promised him the Holy Spirit as his guide.

How this section connects to Christ
The calling to preach from land to land echoes Paul's declaration that those who are sent to preach bring beautiful tidings, for how shall they hear without a preacher?
The promise that the Comforter will teach him all things reflects Jesus' assurance to His disciples that the Holy Ghost would guide them in all truth.
Living D&C 79
Even though this is one of the shortest revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants, it reminds us that God knows each of us individually and has specific work for us to do. Jared Carter was not a prominent leader, yet the Lord spoke a personal revelation just for him. No matter how small our assignment may seem, when it comes from God, it carries eternal significance. The Lord's promise that the Comforter would accompany Jared is the same promise available to every person who steps forward in faith to share the gospel.
