Psalms 122

I Was Glad

Study note

David was glad when they said, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord.' The pilgrims stand inside Jerusalem's gates. Jerusalem is built as a city joined firmly together, where the tribes go up to praise the Lord.

1 My heart jumped with happiness when people said to me, 'Come on, let us go to the LORD's house!' I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
2 And now here we are, standing inside your gates, Jerusalem! Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem, you are built strong. All your parts fit tightly together. Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
4 This is where all the families of Israel come together to do what God asked — to praise the name of the LORD. Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
5 This is where the thrones for making fair decisions are set up, the thrones of David's royal family. For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Study note

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem — may those who love you be secure. For the sake of the house of the Lord, David will seek Jerusalem's good.

6 Pray that Jerusalem will have peace! May everyone who loves this city do well. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 May there be safety inside your walls and rest in your strong towers. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
8 For the sake of my family and friends, I say, 'May you have peace.' For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will work for your good. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
