What happens in Psalms 150

The grand finale of the entire Book of Psalms. Every instrument and every living thing that has breath is called to praise the Lord. The book that began with quiet meditation on God's word ends with an explosion of praise.

Psalms 150

Praise the Lord with Everything

Study note

Praise the Lord in his sanctuary and in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power and his surpassing greatness. Praise him with trumpet, harp, lyre, tambourine, dancing, strings, flute, and crashing cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in the place where he is most holy! Praise him across the mighty sky! Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for every powerful thing he has done! Praise him because his greatness is beyond all measure! Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the blast of the trumpet! Praise him with the harp and the lyre! Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with tambourines and dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him with crashing cymbals! Praise him with cymbals that ring loud and long! Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that breathes praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Living Psalms 150

The book of Psalms ends exactly where it should: with everything that has breath praising the Lord. Trumpets, harps, tambourines, strings, flutes, and crashing cymbals — nothing is held back. Whatever breath you have left in your lungs, use it to praise God. That is what you were made for. Praise the Lord!
