BOOK OF MORMON
Moroni 5
Chapter 5 of 10
What happens in Moroni 5
Moroni records the sacramental prayer over the wine (water), which witnesses to the Father that the partakers do always remember the blood of Christ shed for them, with the promise that His Spirit will be with them.
Moroni 5
The sacramental prayer over the wine
Study note
The prayer over the wine follows the same pattern as the prayer over the bread. It asks God the Eternal Father to bless and sanctify the wine to the souls of those who drink it, in remembrance of the blood of Christ shed for them. The partakers witness that they do always remember Him. The promised blessing is again the companionship of the Spirit.
Themes in Moroni 5
How this chapter points to Christ
The prayer's focus on drinking in remembrance of Christ's blood echoes Paul's teaching that whenever we eat and drink in the Lord's Supper, we proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
Living Moroni 5
The two sacramental prayers together form a complete renewal of our covenant relationship with God. The bread represents Christ's body; the wine represents His blood. Together they remind us of the full cost of our redemption. As we partake, we are invited not merely to go through motions but to genuinely remember, to let our hearts be filled with gratitude for what Christ has done for us.
